The World Health Organization and UNICEF recommend exclusive breastfeeding from birth for the first 4-6 months of life, and sustained breastfeeding together with adequate complementary foods up to 2 years of age or beyond. Breastfeeding gives children the best start in life. It is estimated that over one million children die each year from diarrhea, respiratory and other infections because they are not adequately breastfed. It is important for mothers to be educated not only before delivery and during the perinatal period, but also during the whole of the first and second year of a child's life.

Certified Breastfeeding Educator (CBE) can give mothers good advice about feeding the babies all the times. CBE can help mothers to ensure that their milk supply is adequate.

This course aims to give training in basic breastfeeding counselling skills, which should enable you to give mothers in your care the support and encouragement that they need to breastfeed successfully. During the course trainer will be asked to work hard and participate in clinical practices.
